and born into Light, <\/p>\n
your spirit
\nstill kicking,<\/p>\n
your soul
\nunsoiled
\nby rites of passage
\nor the bloodied waters
\nof the baptismal font,<\/p>\n
Just for a minute
\nyou are Golden.<\/p>\n
And you are wrapped
\nin white linen,
\nand taken to a place
\nthey call Home,<\/p>\n
where the fear
\nof a god
\nwith steel blue eyes<\/p>\n
is cultivated
\nin the cradle,
\nwhere Jesus
\nnever slept,<\/p>\n
and you don’t know yet
\nthat something is wrong;
\nsomething is damaged;<\/p>\n
Something is wrong
\nat the root;<\/p>\n
And you feel
\nthe branch breaking,
\nbut not like the song …<\/p>\n
the nest
\nbeing ripped
\nfrom the bough;<\/p>\n
And you learn quickly
\nhow to fly.<\/p>\n
And when the crucifix
\ncomes off the wall,
\nand the skin
\nripped away
\nfrom your soul,
\nand it splinters
\ninto a million shards
\nof glass,<\/p>\n
and you feel
\nlike a stain
\non white sheets,<\/p>\n
where your mother
\nconceived you
\nin Original Sin,<\/p>\n
you learn quickly
\nhow to lie.<\/p>\n
But something is lost
\nwhen there is damage
\nat the root;<\/p>\n
and you know
\nyou can never
\nreturn.<\/p>\n
Something is lost
\nwhen the chance
\nyou called Home
\nis gone
\nforever.<\/p>\n
But at least,
\nyou do learn quickly
\nhow to fly.<\/p>\n
When you are young
\nand clean<\/p>\n
and always afraid,<\/p>\n
you learn
\nto lie low
\nin the tall grass
\nwhen the nails
\ncome out
\nand the shades
\ngo down<\/p>\n
and the eyebrow
\narches
\ninexplicably;<\/p>\n
And hiding
\nand dreaming
\nbecome the stuff
\nof salvation,<\/p>\n
though absolution
\nis elusive;<\/p>\n
and you spin
\nand you spin<\/p>\n
until the blood
\ndrains from your head;<\/p>\n
until you are dizzy
\nand dripping
\nwith beautiful
\nLies;<\/p>\n
and if you are lucky
\nan artist is born
\nin the wounded field
\nof childhood dreams,
\nwhere you learned
\nhow to spin
\nLight
\nout of pain;<\/p>\n
And you became
\nGolden
